The following timeline presents important milestones and events in the evolutionary development of the physician assistant profession.    

The Society’s Museum Collection features artwork, artifacts and exhibitions that interpret the story of physician assistant profession.

Interviews provide invaluable overviews and details of a subject, offer fresh insights, and suggest directions for further research.

The Still Image Collection contains images created by the Society and by organizations, institutions and individuals who have gifted their collections to the Society.

The Moving Image Collection includes film and video created by various organizations, institutions and individuals and then gifted to the Society over time.

Biographies highlight the men and women who over time have contributed to the establishment, growth and development of the physician assistant profession.

The Society for the Preservation of Physician Assistant History, Inc. Donate to the PA Veterans Memorial Garden with a Brick Paver

Engraved named brick pavers will be embedded in the PA Veterans Memorial Garden walkway and surrounding patio to honor veteran and uniformed service PAs and their service to our country.  The engraved 9x9 brick pavers are available for $100 each, or 2 pavers for $175, 3 for $250, 4 for $325 and 5 for $400.  The engraved brick  paver will include the appropriate uniformed service logo and 3 lines for name, branch and years of service.

PAHx and the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants are joining efforts to expand and upgrade the John McElligott Veterans Memorial Garden at the Eugene A. Stead, Jr. Center for Physician Assistants located in Durham, NC.  The garden honors PAs who have served or are currently serving in the uniformed services of our country, especially the military veterans who became PAs and pioneered the profession 50 years ago.  What better way to celebrate our 50th anniversary then to honor the pioneers who made it possible for us to have such rewarding and meaningful careers?   The funds raised will cover the costs to update the overgrown landscaping, the addition of a walkway and sitting area near the statue, spotlights for the flag pole, a fence to enclose the garden area, two brick benches, and a wall of remembrance with bronze plaques representing each branch of the uniformed services.




PAHx Historian Toolkit

PAHx Educational Toolkit  
The Educational Toolkit on the History and Legacy of the Physician Assistant Profession is available to PAHx Associates. The toolkit is a compendium of PowerPoint™ slides, photographs, and video clips that can be integrated into personalized lectures; a series of self-directed learning modules; a Syllabus of major themes that can be explored using the PAHx website; a textbook primer - The Physician Assistant: An Illustrated History; and the DVD - The Way We Were: A Conversation with the PA Profession’s Early Leaders. The Educational Tool Kit is a continuum of the PAHx Society’s efforts to make the history of the PA profession come alive, meaningful and inspirational for future generations of physician assistants.
